Microsoft kondigt de automatische distributie van de nieuwe Outlook aan vanaf januari 2025

Microsoft informeert momenteel zijn Business- en Premium-klanten via het Microsoft Admin Centre over de automatische overstap naar de nieuwe webgebaseerde Outlook vanaf januari 2025. Microsoft geeft echter aan dat de 'klassieke' Outlook nog steeds kan worden gebruikt door handmatige configuratie in het Admin Centre, afhankelijk van de wensen van de klant.

MS Outlook in Office 365

Met deze nieuwe Outlook beëindigt Microsoft de ondersteuning voor de COM-interface, die jarenlang als standaard is gebruikt. 

Dit betekent onvermijdelijk dat veel plug-ins en gerelateerde functies niet meer zoals voorheen werken.

Bij OpenScape Business leidt dit tot enkele beperkingen:

• myPortal for Outlook: Niet meer bruikbaar, d.w.z. geen lint, geen toegang tot contacten, geen functiebalken zoals favorieten.
• myPortal for Desktop: Kan nog steeds worden gebruikt, maar zonder toegang tot Outlook-contacten.
• myContacts: Niet meer bruikbaar; het importeren van Outlook-contacten is niet langer mogelijk.

Zoals reeds eerder vermeld biedt Microsoft in de nieuwe Outlook-versie de COM-interface niet langer aan, deze interface was essentieel  voor de werking van de huidige plug-in.

Hoewel Microsoft met de nieuwe Outlook een nieuwe webgebaseerde interface aanbiedt, maakt deze geen zinvolle en vertrouwde functie-integratie van een communicatieplug-in meer mogelijk.

Alternatieven

Klanten die de klassieke Outlook willen blijven gebruiken, kunnen de myPortal for Outlook-plug-in en myContacts blijven gebruiken voor het importeren van Outlook-contacten zoals gebruikelijk.

Voor klanten die moeten overstappen naar de nieuwe Outlook, raden we het gebruik aan van de alternatieven die wij aanbieden, zoals:

• myPortal for Desktop
• myPortal for Teams (standalone)
• Unify Phone (inclusief Click-to-Dial vanuit Outlook-contacten).

MyPortal for Desktop en myPortal for Teams kunnen al worden gebruikt met de aangekochte UC Groupware-licentie.

Voor klanten die Microsoft Teams gebruiken, raden we ook onze integraties aan, zoals:

• Unify Phone (voor Microsoft Teams)
• myPortal for Teams (ingebed in MS Teams).

Deze oplossingen vullen Microsoft Teams aan met vertrouwde UC- en telefoniefuncties.

Microsoft heeft tot nu toe de getroffen klanten specifiek geïnformeerd via hun Admin Centre. Algemene informatie is momenteel alleen te vinden op de websites van diverse IT-nieuwsdiensten, bijvoorbeeld Heise Medien GmbH & Co. KG:

Microsoft announces the automatic distribution of the new Outlook up from January 2025

Microsoft is currently informing its Business and Premium customers via the Microsoft Admin Centre about the automatic switch to the new web-based Outlook from January 2025. However, Microsoft informs that the ‘classic’ Outlook can still be used by manual configuration in the Admin Centre, depending on customer requirements.

MS Outlook in Office 365

With this new Outlook,  Microsoft is ending support for the COM interface that has been used as the standard for many years.

This inevitably means that many plugins and surrounding functions no longer work as before. With OpenScape Business this leads to some restrictions:

• myPortal for Outlook: no longer usable, i.e. no ribbon, no access to contacts, no function bars such as favorites
• myPortal for Desktop: can still be used, but without access to Outlook contacts
• myContacts: can no longer be used, the import of Outlook contacts is no longer possible

As previously mentioned, Microsoft no longer offers the COM interface in the new Outlook version; this interface was essential for the functionality of the current plug-in.

Although Microsoft offers a new web-based interface with the new Outlook, but this no longer allows any meaningful and familiar feature integration of a communication plug-in.

Alternatives;

Customers who wish to continue using classic Outlook can continue to use the myPortal for Outlook plugin and myContacts for importing Outlook contacts in the usual way.

For customers who need to switch to the new Outlook, we recommend using the alternatives we offer, such as:

• myPortal for Desktop,
• myPortal for Teams (standalone)
• Unify Phone (inclusive Click-to-Dial from Outlook contacts).

MyPortal for Desktop and myPortal for Teams can already be used with the purchased UC Groupware license.

For customers who use Microsoft Teams, we also recommend our integrations, such as:

• Unify Phone (for Microsoft Teams)
• myPortal for Teams (embedded into MS Teams),

These solutions supplement the Microsoft Teams solution with familiar UC and telephony functions.
